In late 2003 and early 2004, the Ravenswood Development Authority worked with faculty and students at Marshall University to complete an assessment of the town's strengths and weaknesses.

The Ravenswood Development Authority's mission is the promotion of business opportunities in the Ravenswood Community. We support and assist: new business development, existing business retention and expansion and the beautification of the city.

The RDA invites community involvement. If you would like to contribute something back to the community, perhaps you would consider assisting with one of our standing committees? If, so, please contact the committee chair or one of the RDA board members.

 

Our standing committees include:

 

Business Recruitment, Retention and Tourism

The subcommittee is focused on promoting existing businesses and attracting new business.  The committee will be working closely with the Ravenswood Convention and Visitors' Bureau to promote recreation, tourism, hospitality and lodging in the area.   The chair of this subcommittee is vacant.

 

Downtown Revitalization and Landscape Improvement

Chaired by Julie Gurtis, the subcommittee is focused on improving the appearance of the downtown shopping and Historical Districts.  The subcommittee works closely with the Ravenswood Historical Landmark Commission and with the city's Planning and Zoning Board.

 

Recreation, Arts and Entertainment

Chaired by Mary Pat Glover, the  subcommittee is tasked with expanding cultural events and activities in the community.  This group works closely with local government officials, community organizations and local entertainers to broaden the area's recreation and entertainment environment.  The Chair of this subcommittee is open. 

 

Infrastructure

Chaired by Earl Wolfe, the subcommittee acts as a liaison between the city council, developers, architectural/engineering firms and government and private funding sources.  The subcommittee is tasked with assisting with the timely and cost effective expansion of new infrastructure and the preservation and maintenance of existing infrastructure.

 

Grants

The subcommittee is focused on identifying new grant and matching fund sources, preparing grant applications, and assisting the Mid Ohio Valley Regional Commission in preparing grant applications.  The chair of this subcommittee is vacant. 

 

Comprehensive Planning

Chaired by Mark Gorman, the subcommittee is tasked with gathering information and public input that will aid in the development of a new Comprehensive Plan for the city.
