Ravenswood is a city of 4,031 which
sits in the heart of the "Golden Triangle" between the three major metropolitan areas of West Virginia; the cities of Charleston, Huntington, and Parkersburg. The City is located one and one half miles from Interstate 77 connected by a modern four lane highway. In the very near future the upgrading of Alternate US Route 33 will be completed making a direct route from Columbus, Ohio to I-77 South and passing through Ravenswood. Ravenswood is served by rail and is located in the heart of the Jackson County Inland District Port Authority. The only working port authority in West Virginia.
Ravenswood
is located on the Ohio River just north of the famous river bend. Riverfront Park is located along the banks of the Ohio and presents a variety of recreational opportunities from boating and other water sports to a picnic lunch in one of the picnic shelters, or a visit to the Washington Lands Museum or the Sayre Cabin restored to the period of 1840 to 1880. Occasionally, you may have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Delta Queen or other paddle wheel passenger boats that navigate past Riverfront Park on their way to Pittsburgh or New Orleans to the south. In addition to Riverfront Park, the City offers recreational activities for the whole family such as tennis, swimming, volleyball, outdoor basketball, baseball, a playground designed for children from toddler to the age of twelve, and a beautiful senior center equipped with a shallow swimming pool.
The homes in Ravenswood are predominately
single family units, beginning with the beautiful historical Victorian type homes, the one story ranch style homes of the 60s, 70, and 80s, and the two story homes preferred in the 90s. Ravenswood is home to fine public schools and a church run school ranging from grades K through 12.
As
Mayor, I am committed to serving the residents of Ravenswood and improving their quality of life by insuring that city fees remain one of the lowest in the state and our city streets continue to be safe to walk twenty four hours a day. In addition, I am working to insure the commercial community expands both in our downtown areas and the areas along the four land highway recently annexed into the City and owned by Ridge Line, Inc.
Come
visit us and I trust that you will find the City of Ravenswood to be the "The
Beautiful City on the Ohio River: A Good Place to Visit; A Better Place to Live".
