American Electric Power (AEP) is evaluating potential sites for a commercial-scale Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) clean-coal power plant. AEP reports that the plant will be the first of its size in the country. The primary site being considered for the plant is located just west of Ravenswood in Meigs County.

In early January 2006, AEP file an application with the Public Service Commission of West Virginia to construct what would be the second IGCC power plant. The site for the second plant will be adjacent to the Mountaineer Plant, near New Haven.
Appalachian Power Files Application To Build IGCC Power Plant In West Virginia
American Municipal Power of Ohio (AMP-Ohio) has announced that it has identified a “preferred site” in Meigs County for a new, coal-fired generation facility. When operational, it is expected that the plant will add “approximately 150 new jobs and more than $20-million to the area’s economy.” The Letart Falls site is less than 15 miles from Ravenswood.
